Plant Publicity Holland was pleased to sponsor Paul Nihot as a speaker at the recent symposium of the International Plant Propagators Society (IPPS) Eastern region. A specialist in this technology from The Netherlands, Paul's presentation on "Tissue Culture of Perennials" provided a thorough overview on in-vitro vegetative propagation, including its benefits and challenges. Although tissue culture or micro-propagation requires sophisticated laboratory facilities and highly skilled labor, these higher costs can be more than offset by the benefits, including quicker bulking up of numbers of planting out stock, the production of large numbers of uniform plants and the production of disease- and virus-free elite stock.
This year's IPPS symposium was held in Montreal, Quebec September 16th to 19th, 2007. The 2008 symposium, scheduled to be held in Denver, Colorado will combine both the eastern and western regions of the IPPS in a single, special event. More details will be posted as they become available.
