Country Line Landscape Nursery in Harleysville, Pennsylvania, chose 'Keep the Color Going!' as the theme for their Top Ten entry in the 2006 Perennials Marketing Contest.

"For the last few years, our weather has shifted to later springs and later warm weather into the fall," said nursery vice president Deni Jones. As this nursery's inventory control policy allows them to bring in new plants for the fall, Country Line's perennial display reflected their dedication to new, fresh product later in the season. No clearance or tired and winding-down-the-season look here.

"While a 'Fall is for Planting' campaign is a good idea, we think that we need to adapt that concept more specifically to perennials for fall," commented Deni. "We are optimistic that 'Keep the Color Going!' may speak better to our customers on an emotional level with a built-in call to action. Additionally, we know that fall is a great decorating time and this means we can combine perennials with fun fall stuff."

Country Line's display was located adjacent to their perennial benches as well as all their fall decorating items and the 'Keep the Color Going!' theme was also supported and cross-promoted in their e-mail newsletter.

Since no display is complete without signage, Country Line used scarecrows to proclaim their 'Keep the Color Going!' message throughout the nursery. And, to make the whole experience fun for kids of all ages, as well as reinforce the notion that gardening can be lots of fun, the entire perennial area took on a fall festival appearance, replete with decorated cornhusks on benches and pumpkins, gourds and scarecrows wherever one looked.
