This compact display of an enormous variety of perennials, demonstrates at a glance that there are no limits to artful combinations. Our sincere congratulations go out to Mori Gardens, Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, one of the top 10 finalists in the 2006 Perennials Marketing Contest.

Prominently exhibited on the main pathway, opposite the Perennial section of the garden center, Mori Gardens' attractive 'Summer in Bloom' perennial display showcased an eye-catching selection of in-bloom perennials.

Each plant was labeled with colorful, weather-proof information tags providing growth, care and planting instructions. Nearby, the display plants and many more, were readily available from alphabetically organized tables. Making purchase decisions as easy as possible is definitely a forté at this busy garden center.

Garden accessories, such as the wagon wheel and the old barrel used for tool storage, can give a garden instant character.
Two closer looks at the interplay of color, texture, variety, light and the massing of plant material. These displays are definitely worth a few thousand words, as it would take an extraordinary customer to imagine that all these plants would look so very good together.
Mori's stunning display included the attractive showy blooms of the 'Royal Mountie' Daylily and the striking, colourful foliage of the 'Golden' Hakonechloa which were combined to create beautiful visual interest. 'Goldstrum' Rudbeckia flowers complimented the rich texture and color of 'Variegated' Summer Phlox and 'Black Jack' Sedum, while 'Moonshine' Yarrow, 'Twilight', 'Sunrise' Coneflowers and 'Color Flash Lime' Astilbe add to the display's summer bounty.

Mori Gardens perennial display also demonstrated how small additions to a perennial bed, such as a classic wagon wheel or worn wooden bench, can add a touch of rustic charm to any garden. Or, how a polished gazing ball tucked between the flowers reflecting color and light, can provide a little mystical appeal.

Another feature of the display was to show that perennials provide color, texture and interest in the garden from the beginning of summer through to first frost. In order to demonstrate how the display plants look in mature gardens, many of the potted display plants were also featured in Mori's permanent gardens, which surrounded the perennial display.
